Selling to a committee in a country you do not live in
Industrial B2B does not respond to campaigns anywhere. Across a border it responds even less, because the relationship that normally carries you does not exist.

What is missing when there is no relationship
Domestically, relationships absorb these gaps. Across a border they do not.
- Documented capability. Machines, tolerances, inspection, certification scope. Vendor registration asks for exactly this and answers typed from memory cost approvals.
- Evidence a stranger can verify. Named applications, test data and references in or near their market, not yours.
- A technical contact who answers. In their hours, understanding the product. This alone separates suppliers in a shortlist.
- A quotation that argues. Part numbers and rates invite comparison against a supplier who does none of your testing.
- Any presence at the specification stage. By the time a request for quotation arrives, the decision has usually narrowed and you are competing on price.
What gets built
Documentation and enablement first, demand generation second.
A capability document
One maintained source feeding vendor registration, tenders, website and every proposal.
Positioning for their competitive set
Not yours. Positioning and strategy.
A technical website
Built to be verified rather than to impress. Website design and build.
Application content
From your own engineers, which is where search visibility comes from. Content and localisation.
A rebuilt quotation format
The cheapest high-return change available. Sales material.
Named account programmes
Because the universe in most industrial categories is countable.
Pipeline visibility
Stages that show the year before an order appears. Sales pipeline.
The document that decides the comparison
Left is what most exporters send. Accurate, professional, and it invites a straight price comparison against a supplier who does less.
Right costs nothing extra and changes what is being compared. It is frequently the single highest-return hour of an engagement.
Across a border it matters more, because the buyer has no relationship history to fill the gaps.
Questions overseas teams ask
Our sales is relationship driven.
At home. In a new market you have no relationships, which is precisely why the documented material has to do the work relationships normally do.
How long before revenue?
For specified products, nine to eighteen months to a design win and revenue on the customer's production timeline after that. Anyone promising faster is describing an exception.
Is a trade show worth it?
For channel development yes. For reaching engineers, technical content and named account programmes generally do better. The return is decided by the invitation and the follow up.
Do we need local language?
For B2B technical content, English is usually sufficient and often preferred. For procurement documents and trade fair material in Germany or Japan, local language helps.
Send me your capability document
Or tell me there is not one, which is the more common answer. Either way I can tell you quickly where the approvals are being lost.
