Europe rewards documentation and punishes vagueness
Vietnamese consumer, furniture and food brands entering Europe usually have competitive product and a compliance and storytelling gap that stops them at the buyer's first assessment.

What stops Vietnamese brands in Europe
Rarely the product, and consistently the surrounding evidence.
- Sustainability claims cannot be evidenced. European retail and regulators audit these. A claim without a source and an owner is worse than no claim.
- Traceability is not documented. For food, furniture and textiles particularly, buyers need the chain written down before they will list you.
- The brand story is generic. Handcrafted, natural, premium. Every competitor says the same and no European buyer has ever chosen on it.
- Certification scope is unclear. Which standard, which scope, which body, valid until when. The scope line is what buyers read.
- The English material was written internally. Understandable, and it costs credibility in a way that is invisible from inside the company.
What gets built
Evidence-led, because that is what European buyers assess.
A European brand platform
A story built on something specific and verifiable rather than on adjectives.
A claims ledger
Every sustainability and quality claim with its evidence and an internal owner.
Traceability documentation
The chain, written for a commercial reader rather than an auditor, which is what retail buyers actually want.
Identity and packaging for Europe
Brand identity and guidelines, including mandatory panel requirements.
Retail and marketplace content
Per market. E-commerce and D2C.
Buyer-facing material
The pack a European retail buyer receives, which frequently does not exist in any consistent form.
The document European buyers eventually request
Claim, evidence, owner. Nothing publishes without all three.
For Vietnamese exporters this is frequently the single highest-return piece of work, because the underlying facts are usually good and have never been assembled.
The same ledger answers retailer questionnaires, marketplace compliance and consumer queries, which replaces several annual scrambles with one maintained sheet.
Questions overseas teams ask
Do we need local language packaging?
For retail in Germany or France, yes, and there are mandatory requirements beyond translation. This is a specialist area and I coordinate rather than advise on it.
Is our price advantage enough in Europe?
Less than in other markets. European retail buyers weigh compliance risk and supply reliability heavily, and a cheaper supplier who cannot document either is not cheaper in their model.
Which European market first?
Depends on category. Germany for volume and Netherlands for distribution reach are common starting points, and the Nordics reward sustainability evidence more than most.
Can you introduce us to European buyers?
Introductions are not something I sell. What I do is make you credible and legible once a buyer is assessing you, which is where most Vietnamese exporters lose.
Send me your sustainability claims
Whatever you currently say. I will tell you which of them would survive a European retailer's compliance team, which is usually fewer than expected.
