Industry practice
Nobody buys a machine. They buy the belief it will keep running.
In capital equipment the specification comparison gets won and the order goes to the supplier with spares in the country and an engineer within a day's travel.

What actually moves a capital purchase
Across every market, and more sharply the further you are from the buyer.
- Spares in the country. A modest critical-spares holding at your dealer removes the objection that otherwise loses the sale. A marketing investment filed as logistics.
- Reference installations. The first three in a market matter disproportionately and should be chosen for reference value and supported well beyond commercial necessity.
- Total cost in their numbers. Output, uptime, scrap, tooling life, energy, labour. Buyers will do this arithmetic; better to do it with them.
- A machine they can visit. Running, at a dealer or reference customer. Converts far better than any documentation.
- Dealer engineering capability. Your dealer is your service organisation. One with sales relationships and no engineers will sell machines you cannot support.
What gets built
Channel-led, because in this category the dealer is most of the marketing.
Dealer selection criteria
Qualified on engineering capability first, sales reach second. channel communication.
Dealer enablement
Technical material, training, launch kits and a current asset library. Channel communication.
A total cost model
Built with the customer's own operating numbers, as a tool your dealer can use in the room.
Reference installation programme
Selection, documentation and a visit protocol, because these carry every subsequent sale.
Exhibition programme
The one category where shows reliably pay, run properly. Exhibitions.
A technical website
With the application and capability content buyers verify against. Website design and build.
Why the stand matters more here
Capital equipment buyers want to see the machine and talk to the engineer, which makes trade fairs one of the few reliably profitable marketing investments in this category.
Organised by customer question rather than product family, so a visitor can find their own problem without being intercepted.
And the return is still decided by who was invited eight weeks earlier and who was still following up in month four.
Questions overseas teams ask
How many dealers do we need?
Fewer than most manufacturers appoint. Two or three strong regional partners beat twelve appointed quickly, which creates conflict and leaves you unable to support any of them.
Should we open a demonstration centre?
Powerful and expensive. Most manufacturers do better placing demonstration capability with a chosen partner or supporting a reference customer generously, before committing to their own facility.
Our machines are premium priced.
Then the segment matters more than the message. Manufacturers supplying export markets or regulated industries will pay for capability. Domestic price-driven segments generally will not.
Can you attend the show with us?
For the first one in a new market, usually worth it. After that the programme should run without me being there.
Where are your spares held for that market?
If the answer is at the factory, that is the objection losing you orders, and it is a marketing problem before it is a logistics one.
