Guide

The mechanics, answered plainly

Most of the hesitation about hiring marketing help from India is about logistics rather than capability, and the logistics are more boring than people expect.

The practical questions, answered

01

Contracting

A standard services agreement with your entity, governed by whichever law your legal team prefers. Nothing unusual and your team will have handled it before.

02

Payment and tax

Invoiced in your currency or USD. Where your finance team needs a tax residency certificate for withholding under a treaty, it is provided. This is routine.

03

Confidentiality

NDA signed before any commercial detail is shared, and a stated conflict policy: no retainers with direct competitors in the same category simultaneously.

04

Intellectual property

Everything produced is yours on payment, including working files. Written into the agreement rather than assumed.

05

Time zones

East Asian clients get the morning, European clients the afternoon. Calls scheduled at a time that suits your office.

06

Travel

For plant visits, market visits and significant shows. Billed at cost and agreed in advance rather than bundled into a rate.

The overlap, in hours

This is the objection that comes up first and matters least.

What matters more is cadence. A written weekly note during active work, a monthly report in a fixed format, and a scheduled call. Predictability removes the anxiety that distance creates.

Clients who extend past six months almost always cite the reporting rather than the strategy, which tells you where the real risk was.

Where the arrangement genuinely fails

When the work requires physical presence in the market week to week. Retail execution, field sales management and event operations are local jobs and I will say so.

When what is actually needed is production volume rather than judgement. That is an agency, and a good local one will serve you better.

When the company wants a supplier who executes a plan already written. That is a procurement exercise and the value of this arrangement is precisely the part you would be removing.

Questions overseas teams ask

Is the time difference a problem?

Less than expected. East Asia gets a live morning and Europe a live afternoon, and nobody waits a day for a reply.

How do we assess quality before committing?

Give me a real problem on a first call rather than a briefing document. What comes back tells you more than any credentials deck.

Can you invoice in JPY, EUR or USD?

Yes. Whichever your finance team prefers.

What about data protection?

Standard confidentiality terms, and where GDPR or equivalent applies, a data processing agreement. Your legal team will have a template and I will work to it.

Ask me the logistics question you are actually worried about

Contracting, payment, confidentiality, time zones, travel. Whatever is making you hesitate. It is usually a two-line answer.
